I would add, don't just vote in elections. Be an election judge. I did it last year and loved it. It was a long day but everyone I worked with was dedicated to getting the process right.
You work at a polling place to check people in, make sure they get the correct ballot and then take the ballot from them at when they are done. It's a long day from before the polls open until well after the polls close. In Florida, contact your local supervisor of elections for info on becoming a poll worker.
